All of us want to protect our property. Things costs money, and we work hard everyday to earn that money. There is no telling what could happen. So we want to make sure that we get at least some of our money back just in case something does happen. The same goes with sailboats. In fact, especially sailboats. These darlings cost a lot of money. Since Hemingway said so himself that the sea often has the mood swings of a woman, you'd want to insure your sailboat before setting sail. First it should be noted that sailboat insurance is mandatory in the US. That means it is illegal to sail anywhere within US territory if your sailboat hasn't been insured yet. In any case, it works to your advantage. No sailboat owner in his or her right frame of mind would dare set sail on an uninsured sailboat. Covering the medical expenses of the people on the boat is always a good sign of a worthy insurance policy. Some do this, some don't. You should only consider insurances that agree to cover at least some of your medical expenses. Another good sign is when the policy agrees to cover some of the equipment on the boat—anchors, sails, riggings and electronic gadgets used for navigation. These are necessary for the sailboat to work properly. So it's only logical that your insurance policy should cover them as well. You can get your sailboat insured by talking to a sailboat insurance company. Look for them on the Internet or on the Yellow Pages. These companies are plentiful, and we doubt you'd have trouble finding a decent one regardless which state you're from. About the price, it's advised that you talk to several sailboat insurance companies to find the best offers and policies. Check the background of the company, too. How long has it been in business? Did it start out with the same name it goes by today? What about its reputation? Solicit referrals and price quotes from friends if you can. The only real way to consolidate an insurance company's name is by talking to its past and existing clients. If a sailboat insurance isn't mandatory in your country, we still advise you to get one. Anything can happen when you're on the water. Sadly, people don't realize the importance of ailboat insurance until they need one. |
